It will improve your feedback and performance management skills whilst building a culture of essential trust and open communication. These listening and questioning skills will be invaluable across other professional realms, such as building deeper stakeholder relationships.
Content includes:
The importance of trust and psychological safety. How trust is won and lost, using examples from your own experience.
Why do we avoid difficult conversations? Is it our fear of conflict or emotional reactions? How do we manage this and how does it impact our ability to give or receive feedback?
Structuring feedback conversations to achieve behaviour change, keeping them evidence-based and non-judgemental.
Listening skills so that people feel heard, including the Listening Wheel and using silence.
Feel it, don’t fix it: knowing when people want solutions and when they don’t, because being really heard and validated is good enough.
Real-life scenarios from your business to practice awkward conversations.
Changing our behaviour first so others change theirs in response: the Parent-Adult-Child model of Transactional Analysis.
Leadership as a spectator sport: walking the talk on receiving feedback, listening, and learning.
Outcome:
Difficult conversations don’t have to be awkward at all. Handled well, they should provide an opportunity for growth, better relationships, and increased psychological safety and performance.
